Services

    • RAPID SERVICE

    • Why does your watch need a rapid service?

After diagnosing your watch, our Cartier Watchmaker has concluded that your watch does not need to be entirely disassembled. Either the battery of your quartz watch needs to be changed or the movement of your mechanical watch needs to be checked and adjusted.

To meet these needs, our Cartier watchmaker will:

      • Open the case.
      • For quartz watches: replace the battery and check the functioning of the movement.
      • Change the back gasket.
      • Close the case back.
      • Check the water-resistance of the case.
      • Clean the case and bracelet with a soft cloth.
      • Check and adjust the bracelet and clasp.

    • MAINTENANCE SERVICE

    • Why does your watch need a maintenance service?

After diagnosing your watch, our Cartier Watchmaker has concluded that it needs to be disassembled. Either your watch is no longer water-resistant and the water-resistance gaskets must all be changed or specific pieces unrelated to the movement need to be changed.

To meet these needs, our Cartier watchmaker will:

      • Completely disassemble the case of your watch.
      • Replace damaged pieces*: battery, all gaskets, hands, crown…
      • Check magnetization.
      • Demagnetize mechanical watches if needed.
      • Check the movement.
      • Adjust the rate of the movement if needed.
      • Clean the case and the bracelet, if the bracelet is metal, with ultrasound waves.
      • Reassemble your watch.
      • Check the functioning of the watch for 48 hours.
      • Check the water-resistance.
      • Check and adjust the bracelet and clasp.

      * The customer will be informed if certain damaged pieces need to be replaced (dial, hands, glass, crown, metal bracelet…). With the customer’s approval, these pieces will be replaced and billed separatly.

    • COMPLETE SERVICE

    • Why does your watch need a complete service?

After diagnosing your watch, our Cartier Watchmaker has concluded that its movement needs to be serviced. The movement is the most technical and finely tuned piece of your watch. Either your watch has not been checked for several years and the oils of the movement may have dried out or the mechanism of the watch is not functioning properly (due to shock to the case for example).

To restore the functioning of the watch, our Cartier watchmaker will:

      • Completely disassemble your watch.
      • Replace damaged pieces*: battery, all gaskets, hands, crown…
      • Check magnetization.
      • Demagnetize mechanical watches if needed.
      • Restore the movement.
      • Check the movement.
      • Polish the case (and the bracelet if the bracelet is metal).
      • Clean the case (and the bracelet, if the bracelet is metal with ultrasound waves).
      • Reassemble your watch.
      • Check the functioning of the watch for 48 hours.
      • Check the water-resistance.
      • Check and adjust the bracelet and clasp

      * The customer will be informed if certain damaged pieces need to be replaced (dial, hands, glass, crown, metal bracelet…). With the customer’s approval, these pieces will be replaced and billed separatly.

    • POLISHING SERVICE

    • Why does your watch need to be polished?

You wish to rediscover the original shine and brilliance of your watch.

To meet this need, the polishing specialist will:

      • Disassemble the watch case and bracelet.
      • Disassemble the case’s movement / dial / hands ensemble (Polishing should be combined with a Maintenance Service).
      • Work on each element using a combination of different brushes and abrasive pastes:

      - Felting: a very hard brush and a very abrasive paste are used first to eliminate superficial scratches.
      - Polishing: a hard brush and a hard paste are used to refine the condition of the original surface.
      - Shining: a soft brush and a fine paste are used to buff the model and give it its final shine.
      - The clasp, case, back of the case and metal bracelet are each polished in turn.

      • Clean the case and bracelet with ultrasound waves.
      • Reassemble the various elements.
      • Warning: a layer of metal is removed during polishing. This service is therefore recommended only eight times in the lifetime of a yellow gold watch. Moreover, some scratches that are too deep cannot always be removed.

    • RHODIUM PLATING SERVICE

    • Why does your watch need rhodium plating?

The surface of your white gold watch is covered with a very thin layer of rhodium which brings out its whiteness and brilliance. This protective layer changes with time and must be reapplied.

      The specialist will:

      • Separate the case and bracelet from the watch.
      • Separate the movement / dial / hands ensemble from the case.
      • Eliminate the rhodium from each element using brushes and abrasive pastes to provide a neutral base for the new treatment. This is the most delicate and longest phase, as the elements must be made to look brand new, yet their original shape must not be altered.
      • Work on each element using a combination of different brushes and abrasive pastes:

      - Felting: a very hard brush and a very abrasive paste are used first to eliminate superficial scratches,
      - Polishing: a hard brush and a hard paste are used to refine the condition of the original surface,
      - Shining: a soft brush and a fine paste are used to buff the model and give it its final shine.

      • Clean the case and bracelet with ultrasound waves.
      • Perform a rhodium bath so that a very thin layer of rhodium is deposited on the surface of your white gold watch. This layer will bring out the whiteness and brilliance of its surface.
      • Reassemble the various elements.

Warning: a layer of metal is removed during polishing. This service is therefore recommended only four times in the lifetime of a white gold watch.

    • HISTORICAL OR COMPLICATION WATCH SERVICES

    • Our rarest or most sophisticated watches require the expertise of our Master-Watchmakers. The workshop where Cartier watches are hand made is located in Switzerland. For complication watches, the mechanism is extremely sophisticated and only the Cartier master watchmakers who designed it have the skills and experience necessary to work on these models. The restoration of historical watches, which are rare and delicate, requires the historical knowledge and know-how of the Master Watchmakers of the Cartier workshops. In these two cases, a personalized service is carried out. A specific and unique file is created and kept in the Cartier archives.
