1847

In 1847 Louis-François Cartier takes over the workshop of his master, Adolphe Picard, at 29 rue Montorgueil in Paris. The premises becomes bigger and bigger and in 1853 opens up to a private clientele. After a troubled period, Paris is again bubbly and gay, the splendour of the Second Empire favours the expansion of trade. In 1859, Cartier is prospering and opens a shop on 9 boulevard des Italiens, at the midst of Parisian bustle.
