Cartier

1912

It was in 1912, through research, that Louis Cartier came up with what was going to become one of Cartier’s most famous inventions, the one that would literally fascinate generations and extravagant clients: the mysterious clocks. Their hands seem to float in space with no apparent link to the movement, they were in fact fixed onto a crystal disk with a crown in dented metal. The mystery clocks will show many aesthetical variations: A model, a screen clock, chimeras, mystery fob watches as the ones created for Cartier’s 150th anniversary… But the most famous ones remain the portico models. One of them (the Billiken clock) evokes a Buddhist temple with the columns in rock crystal and a rock crystal Buddha sits on the top of the temple.
