CORUNDUM

The generic term for a family of precious stones that consist of crystallized aluminum oxide: the ruby, the classic blue sapphire and sapphires of other colors, the rarest of which is a pink-orange Sri Lankan variety known as padparadscha (“lotus blossom”). Sapphires also occur in other shades, such as pink, mauve, yellow or green. Hardness: 9. Sri Lanka,Thailand, Cambodia,Australia, Madagascar.
