PYROPE
The most well-known variety of garnet, the pyrope is a fiery-red stone that takes its name from the Greek pyropos meaning “fiery-eyed”.In ancient times the pyrope was classed in an indistinct group of red stones known as carbunculus meaning “red-hot coal”.
It is, along with the peridot, a characteristic mineral of kimberlite and can guide diamond-hunters in their search. Silicate of aluminium and magnesium.Hardness: 7 to 7.5. Russia, United States, Australia, Brazil,Tanzania.
