TANZANITE
A transparent variety of zoisite that is an intense blue tinged with pink. When viewed in electric light its color takes on a more pronounced mauve hue, similar to that of certain sapphires.It was discovered in 1967 in Tanzania, and is still found only in this country. Silicate of calcium and aluminum. Hardness: 6.5.
