What is the difference between a quartz movement and a mechanical one ?

Quartz watches are powered by a miniature battery and an integrated circuit which provide the energy. Hand-wound mechanical watches work on the principle of a spring system which needs to be rewound to provide energy. Automatic watches also work on the principle of a spring system, but one which is automatically rewound by the movements of the wrist.

Are all Cartier watches produced in Switzerland ?

Bearing the prestigious “Swiss Made” label, all Cartier watches are painstakingly assembled at the Cartier facilities in Switzerland: in La Chaux-de-Fonds or in Geneva for the watches bearing the Geneva Seal.

Are all Cartier watches guaranteed ?

All watches purchased from Cartier boutiques or authorized Cartier retailers come with the Cartier International Guarantee (limited guarantee for US & Canada) and are guaranteed against any manufacturing defect for an unlimited period. However, 24 months following the date of purchase, you will be charged for the labor involved in any repair or replacement, whether the parts are covered by the guarantee or not.See detailed Guarantee

Can I swim with my watch ?

If your watch is waterproof, you may swim but not always dive. Furthermore, before coming in contact with water, you should check that the crown of your watch is not pulled out and is pushed firmly into the watch case.

Is it possible to engrave a watch ?

It is possible to engrave most watches depending on the space available on the watch. We invite you to visit a Cartier boutique or the authorized retailer of your choice to find out whether or not your watch can be engraved.

Are watches with bracelets adjustable ?

Watch bracelets are adjustable in Cartier Boutiques and through the Cartier e-boutique. We invite you to call a Cartier boutique, the authorized retailers of your choice or our Client relations center for further advice. Where can I buy a leather strap ?

A selection of our leather straps is available in our Cartier Boutiques.

How long will my leather strap last ?

Considerable care and testing have gone into the production of our leather watch straps to ensure they meet our high quality standards. Under normal conditions of use, a leather Cartier strap will last on average 6 to 12 months. This will depend on the various conditions in which the watch is worn and the frequency of use. For instance, contact with water or any other liquid may cause premature wearing of the strap. Your leather strap may last longer if care is taken to avoid such damage.
