Controlling the effects of gravity has always been one of the greatest challenges facing watchmakers. Until now, the tourbillon has been the most common solution to this problem. With the Caliber 9800 MC, Cartier proposes an alternative to the tourbillon. This unprecedented movement is founded on one principal characteristic: its rotor, which bears the entire escapement, oscillator and small-seconds assembly, always returns to the same position, thus avoiding the effect of gravity on timekeeping in vertical positions.A real triumph of watchmaking design, this rotor, carrying five times as many parts as a simple tourbillon carriage, bears new witness to the skill of Cartier’s master watchmakers.
