BÉRÉNICE EMERALD, 1925

This hexagonal-shaped emerald totalling 141.13 carats was most likely engraved in India during the reign of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (1592-1666). It was at the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris when it made its debut on a Cartier shoulder jewel called “Bérénice” by La Gazette du Bon Ton. Since then, it has been exhibited in prestigious museums, most recently at the Grand Palais in Paris and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
