Jewelry
Your Cartier jewelry is precious and requires care and attention. We recommend the following daily considerations to preserve your jewelry as long as possible:
• Be sure to handle your jewelry with care.
• Remove your jewelry when washing your hands or using corrosive products that could permanently damage precious metal, stones or pearls.
• Take your regular activities into consideration when wearing your jewelry, including potential for impact.
• Keep your jewelry away from intense sources of heat and extreme temperature changes.
• Avoid any contact with cosmetic or household products, since they contain ingredients that could discolor your jewelry.
• Store your jewelry in an individual case, in its original Cartier case or in the separate compartment of a jewelry box.
• Chains should be closed, wrapped, and laid flat to avoid the formation of knots.

Two pieces of jewelry may be affected by being worn side by side.
For rings, the friction between two circles within the same ring, or around the edges of each stone, may explain the scratches that can often be observed. Gold bracelets may be affected by daily interactions with hard surfaces, which can include other jewelry.
Should you have further questions, our technicians are at your disposal to carry out a diagnosis and recommend the service that best suits your requirements.

Pearls are delicate and should be handled with care, as they could potentially be damaged by light, heat or by contact with soap or detergents.
- If you wear your pearls regularly, have their stringing checked once a year.
- Avoid spraying perfume on pearls.
- Clean them with a damp cloth, using neither soap nor detergent.
- Store pearls separately from other jewelry in an individual case or pouch.

For the vast majority of jewelry, polishing makes it possible to remove or limit scratching on gold surfaces.
Given that polishing involves the removal of a fine layer of metal, we do not recommend polishing your jewelry more than twice in its lifetime for a piece made of white gold, or three times in its lifetime for a piece made of yellow gold. The Rapid Shine Service, a less intense polishing operation, is also available for the removal of superficial scratches on some yellow and rose gold models.
Not all Cartier creations can or should be polished; our technicians are at your disposal to carry out a diagnosis and recommend the service that best suits your requirements.

Cartier allows earrings to be returned or exchanged, subject to our Return/Exchange Policy and Conditions of Sale.
Please note that you may request a service to adapt the model and the size of the clasp of your earrings to ensure maximum comfort. The first earring clasp adjustment service is complimentary.
By following these simple tips, you will be able to keep your jewelry in its original condition for many years to come:
- Regularly check the clasp
• If your jewelry does not contain lapis lazuli, coral, pearls, turquoise, emeralds or a significant cluster of stones, you may soak it regularly for a few minutes at a time in warm soapy water (using only soap with a neutral pH).
• Gently brush it with a very soft toothbrush and then rinse it carefully in warm water. Finally, dry and buff the piece with a soft cloth, a chamois leather or a clean microfiber tissue.
• If your jewelry does contain any of the above stones, cleaning should be entrusted to one of our specialists at a Cartier boutique.

Cartier describes its precious metals in terms of millesimal fineness, rather than the karat system. Millesimal fineness can be used to describe all metals and it measures the parts per thousand of pure metal in each alloy.
For Cartier, they are as follows:
Gold (white, rose, yellow): 750/1000
Platinum: 950/1000
Palladium: 950/1000
Silver: 925/1000
The karat system, which can be used only for gold, measures the parts of gold per 24. In the karat system, 18 karat gold is 18 parts gold per 24, therefore it is 75% gold. 24 karat gold is 100% gold.
We recommend that you always protect your precious stones, as even diamonds and other hard precious stones may become broken or ground down by repeated hard physical contact. We especially recommend:
• Regularly checking the prongs and settings of your stones
• Having your jewelry cleaned if the stones start to lose their shine or become dull in appearance

Each LOVE bracelet comes with a special screwdriver, enclosed in a red pouch on the internal section of the lid. The screwdriver is stored in the lid to prevent scratching the bracelet in transit.
Cartier’s iconic design of the LOVE bracelet is unique and requires care when placing it upon your wrist to prevent scratching or damage. We recommend visiting our Jewelry Instructions page for more information regarding our classic LOVE bracelet, including an illustrated guide and video instructions.
When attaching or removing the bracelet, we recommend that you:
- Remove all other jewelry to protect the bracelet
- Position your wrist over a solid surface that would provide a soft landing and reduce damage, such as a bed or large cushion.
- Seek the help of another person to prevent scratching the bracelet or yourself. One person should be prepared to loosen the screws, while the bracelet wearer holds the two halves of the bracelet in position with their opposite thumb and index finger.
Once your bracelet has been fastened, we recommend removing it from your wrist for a cleaning on an annual basis; this is to ensure the screws remain in good working condition.
Please note Cartier items can only be returned or exchanged in pristine condition, so should the item show any signs of wear or damage, a return or exchange would no longer be possible.
