Created in 1906, the Tonneau watch is shaped like parentheses opening on a curved oblong flinqué dial. Seemingly simple in appearance, the contours of the watch dictate the form of the movement in a feat of technical prowess. The Roman numerals, as well as the sapphire cabochon set in the winding crown, are forerunners of the signature Cartier watchmaking style.
Tonneau Skeleton watch, extra-large model, Manufacture mechanical movement with manual winding, caliber 9919 MC. Platinum (950/1000) case, two beaded crowns each set with a blue sapphire cabochon, blued-steel sword-shaped hands, sapphire crystal and case back, strap in blue alligator skin, 18K white gold (750/1000) deployant buckle. Dual time zone complication: two distinct hour and minute indicators, dials formed by skeletonized bridges. Individually numbered movement consisting of 197 parts including 35 rubies. Movement dimensions: 28 mm x 28 mm, movement thickness: 7.9 mm, balance: 28,800 vibrations/hour, power reserve approx. 60 hours. Case dimensions: 52.4 mm x 29.8 mm. Thickness: 10.4 mm. Water-resistant up to 3 bar (approx. 30 meters/100 feet).
