Santos de Cartier watch

1904. Louis Cartier granted the wish of the famous Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont: to be able to tell the time while flying. The birth of one of the first ever wristwatches sealed the bonds of friendship between these two pioneers. The rounded angles of the dial, seamless curve of the horns, and the exposed screws made for an iconic watch that would inspire countless reinterpretations.

Santos watch, medium model, mechanical movement with automatic winding, calibre 1847 MC. Rhodium-finish white gold 750/1000 case, bezel and case set with brilliant-cut diamonds. Rhodium-finish white gold 750/1000 7-sided crown set with a faceted sapphire, sunray-effect dial, blued-steel sword-shaped hands, sapphire crystal. Two alligator-skin straps with the “QuickSwitch” interchangeability system, interchangeable rhodium-finish white gold 750/1000 folding buckle. Case width: 35.1 mm, thickness: 8.83 mm. Water-resistant to 10 bar (approx. 100 metres).
