Watch & jewellery initiative 2030
The Maison launched the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 in October 2021, uniting members from the Watch and Jewellery industry in a commitment to three ambitious and common objectives: building climate resilience, preserving resources and fostering inclusiveness.
Driven by a common conviction that the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and aspirations for a sustainable industry can only be achieved through collaborative initiatives, Cartier and Kering have come together to broaden and strengthen their action, launching the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030.
1. The first goal of the initiative focusses on reducing carbon emissions in line with the 1.5°C pathway and achieving Net Zero by 2030. The brands involved must make a minimum commitment to engage in signing and submitting the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) by 2022, setting science-based emission reduction targets.
2. The second goal ensures that the industry’s sourcing has a positive impact on nature, species and communities. As the minimum commitment, brands that join the initiative must measure and prioritise their impact on biodiversity and water across their sourcing of key raw materials, using a credible science-based framework, within a year of joining the initiative.
3. The initiative’s third goal is to foster inclusive and responsible value chains. As a group, all brands joining the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 will work collectively to define a minimum commitment for this pillar and to identify the relevant certifications for their supply chain. The members must also contribute to the preservation and transmission of craftsmanship and industry savoir-faire.
