Your Cartier watch deserves care and attention. We recommend the following daily considerations, so that it is preserved as long as possible:

• Keep your watch away from prolonged exposure to magnetism.
• Avoid wearing a bracelet on the same wrist.
• Avoid wearing your watch when playing sports such as golf or tennis.
• Avoid extreme changes in temperature and humidity, such as saunas.

If your watch is equipped with an automatic mechanical movement, have the bracelet property fitted to your wrist by a Cartier sales associate to ensure the optimal winding of the movement.

You can clean your watch with a soft dry cloth, regardless of water resistance.

Your watch is certified water-resistant and its water-resistance is ensured by a series of seals. Before any contact with water, however, please ensure that the crown of your watch is not pulled out. When your watch is under water, do not activate the push-pieces for the chronograph function, the minute-repeater or the second time zone. After swimming, make sure to rinse your water-resistant watch in fresh water so as to neutralise the harmful effects of sea-water or chlorine.

The average lifespan of your battery is between two and three years. We advise you never to leave a used battery inside your watch, since its deterioration may lead to the deterioration of the whole movement.

To change a battery, take your watch to a Cartier After-Sales Service at any Cartier boutique or at an authorised dealer.

As part of the battery changing service, and as required by the Cartier guarantee whenever a watch is opened, the Cartier technician will also test the water-resistance of your watch.

With its intricate mechanism, the movement of your watch needs to be cleaned at regular periods. This is because, over time, the oils it contains dry out and may cause friction which will affect the accuracy of the mechanism.

We recommend that your watch undergo a functional check every six years in order to ensure that the movement is still precise and reliable.

If your watch is noticeably fast or slow, the movement may need to be serviced before six years have elapsed.

Even if you do not wear it regularly, a mechanical watch must be periodically wound up so that the workings of the movement are regularly oiled.

The care and tests that we devote to Cartier leather watch-straps ensure that they are of the highest quality, enjoying in normal conditions of use an average lifespan of twenty-four months. However, contact with water or any other liquid may accelerate wear and tear on the strap.

We recommend that you entrust the changing of your watch's leather strap to a Cartier-authorised After-Sales Service. There you will be offered a choice of models that fit your watch case perfectly, fitted with tongue buckles or adjustable folding clasps of certified authenticity.

The care and tests that we devote to Cartier rubber watch-straps ensure that they are of the highest quality, enjoying in normal conditions of use an average lifespan of eighteen months. However a dense urban environment and intense exposure to sunlight may cause the premature ageing of the strap.

The day-to-day maintenance of a rubber strap can be ensured by cleaning it with soapy water. Contact with cosmetic varnishes should be avoided.

We recommend you to entrust the changing of your watch's rubber strap to a Cartier-authorised After-Sales Service. There you will be offered a choice of models that fit your watch case perfectly, fitted with tongue buckles or adjustable folding clasps of certified authenticity.

To keep your metal bracelet in good condition, minimise the effects of wear and tear and ensure an optimal lifespan, we particularly recommend you to have it adjusted so that if fits closely to the wrist. We also suggest cleaning it once every two months, if worn on a daily basis.

Before cleaning, please always ensure that the crown of your watch is not pulled out.

The movement of a complication watch is more delicate than that of a conventional watch since it contains a very large number of components. The smaller the components, the more delicate they are.

The recommendations made below will help you to preserve your complication watch for many years to come, with all its accuracy, regularity of rate and authenticity.

• Try to keep your watch away from all sources of magnetism, e.g., smartphones and computers, but also magnetised handbag clasps, loudspeakers or airport metal detectors. These in fact generate strong magnetic fields which may have an effect on your watch's movement ranging from minor interference to actually causing it to stop. In the latter case it will be necessary to call on the services of a Cartier watchmaker to carry out a demagnetisation procedure.
• Never set your watch to the right time when the striking mechanism or perpetual calendar are in operation.
• When setting the time and date on your watch, respect the time and date adjustment periods specific to its movement.
• Changing the date between 10 pm and 2 am (or between 8 pm and 2 am for some mechanisms) may damage the gear-trains already set in motion.
• Do not force the crown when you feel that the spring is tense at the end of the winding process.
• Do not use the push-pieces, bolts and correctors of chronograph and minute-repeater watches when under water.
• To protect its movement from vibrations that might damage it, you are recommended not to wear your watch when playing sports such as golf or tennis.
• When your watch is not being worn, wind its movement for approximately a dozen turns of the crown to prevent the oils it contains from drying out.
